Soccer players need situational awareness, multi-directional agility, body coordination, and stamina. Soccer player’s stamina must be two-fold, they must have explosive anaerobic fitness along with continuous aerobic endurance. 

In soccer, coordination is crucial. Players must have body coordination to accurately execute complex movements such as dribbling, turning, passing, and intercepting all while under pressure. Small improvements in foot-eye coordination are shown to strongly influence kicking performance and accuracy. 

Soccer also requires incredible timing to head the ball or shoot a goal. In order to have good timing, a player needs to be able to judge speed, analyze spin on the ball, and maintain accurate depth-perception. Along with timing, players need exceptional reaction time. A good soccer player is able to quickly react to a loose ball, an opponent’s pass or shot, or an opening to score. Reaction time often makes the difference between winning and losing.


Hand-eye coordination and reaction time is incredibly essential for a goalie. A goalie must be trained to quickly react with the body to what the eyes and mind see. This kind of ability and coordination requires strong motor skills—the body’s ability to coordinate the brain, nervous system, and muscles, to quickly and accurately respond to an opponent’s shot.
